We have had weeks without rain so wasn’t expecting anything special on the evening of the 20th of may. Boy was I wrong on that account.
When we got to the reservoir there was bright sunshine with a light breeze.
Got set up and off we went. Nothing could have prepared us for the frenzy that was about to unfold. After about 20 minutes or so with not much fish showing, we started noticing a lot of fish movement very close to south shore.

Once we moved the boat closer to the shore we realised the fish where feeding extremely hard. A few changes of flies soon had us having offers every cast. The flies doing the business were the black hopper and an olive emerger.
This was a suprise for me as the weather hadn’t really been great for fly fishing. with little rain and lots of sunshine and heat.
We where out for about two and a half hours and in that time we managed to get about 35-40 trout to the boat between the two of us.
These types of evenings are far and few apart. But knowing where to go on Threipmuir is everything. If we went elsewhere on the water we probably wouldn’t have had the same result.
