Welcome to my fly pattern page, a place dedicated to the craft, creativity, and tradition of fly tying. Here you’ll find a carefully curated collection of fly patterns designed to inspire anglers of all abilities, from those just starting out to seasoned fly fishers looking to refine their boxes. Each pattern reflects time spent on the water, attention to detail at the vice, and a genuine appreciation for what makes a fly both effective and enjoyable to fish.
Many of these flies are proven fish-catchers, refined through real-world testing on rivers, lochs, and stillwaters, while others explore classic designs with modern twists.
This page is about sharing knowledge, encouraging experimentation, and celebrating the satisfaction of tying something with your own hands. Whether you’re looking for confidence patterns, seasonal ideas, or simply inspiration for your next tying session, I hope you’ll find something here that earns a place in your fly box and brings success on the water
The Loch Ordie Sedgehog

This loch Ordie is probably one of the most used flies in my box in the summer evenings. Unbelievably deadly. I find this pattern works best from June – August, fished late in the evening. Put it on the point or middle dropper.
The Werewolf

The Werewolf is another fly to use when sedge are on the water. This is a solid middle dropper pattern for me. Very rarely will I ever put it on the point or top dropper.
Olive Sedgehog

Pretty much used at the same time as the Loch Ordie sedgehog. Absolutely great fly to have in your box. especially when sedge are on the water. Can be fished point middle or top dropper.
Loch Ordie

The loch Ordie, this is in my opinion one of the best wet fly patterns ever. It can be fished anywhere from point fly, middle or top dropper, this pattern does mean business. Extremely easy fly to tie and very effective. Can be used all season but comes into it own from mid summer to September.
Black Hopper

This fly I was introduced to by a mate who is a massive fan of hoppers. He literally has one on at some point, any time he goes fishing throughout the year. In all fairness it’s an extremely effective pattern to have in your box. I fish these with a floating or midge tip line on the point or top dropper.
Candyfloss Boobie

It’s is a excellent fly. It fully deserves to be in your box. This can be fished with any type of line, I prefer it with a sink tip. Stick this fly on the point with a few buzzers on the droppers.
Olive Emerger

This is a pattern I use a lot, especially from mid may till mid September. Very rare if it doesn’t find itself on my cast at some point throughout an outing. Nearly always on top dropper occasionally middle dropper.
Kate Crippler

I used to fish the Kate MacLean a lot then I was introduced to Golden pheasant rump feathers. What can I say it makes an already good fly better in my opinion. The extra movement in the front hackle just makes this a great pattern.
Black Pennel

The black Pennel is a pattern I use earlier in the season. This classic is great for imitation of midge.
Bibio

The Bibio Palmer wet fly is a great traditional wet fly that works. Fished either as a top dropper or middle dropper on a team of wet flies. The colour combination of black and red with a silver rib have stood the test time. Great for imitating general terrestrial insects the fly works especially well in a good wave.
