This report records the outcome of an evening fly fishing session conducted under favourable conditions, during which fish activity was concentrated in and around the weed beds and six brown trout were landed without the need for significant tactical adjustment.
Location & Conditions
The session took place at my local reservoir on 15 June 2026. Conditions were overcast with a light wind and an air temperature of approximately 12°C. Water conditions were excellent throughout the session. Recent activity on the water had been productive for much of the day, although the evening period proved less favourable.
Flies & Tactics
The session was undertaken using Bibio, Alexandra, and Microbrite Nymph patterns in sizes 12, 12, and 14 respectively. A three fly cast was used throughout, comprising a Bibio on the point and an Alexandra together with a nymph on the droppers. Presentation appeared to have limited influence on results, and no tactical adjustments were considered necessary during the session.

Catch Details
The catch comprised six brown trout, all estimated within a weight range of 1 to 1½ lb. No individual best fish was specifically recorded. Throughout the session, numerous takes were encountered in and around the weed beds, indicating that this area held the most consistent fish activity.
Reflections & Lessons Learned
The most effective approach proved to be fishing in and around the weed beds, while open-water fishing produced weaker results. The level of visible surface activity remained limited, suggesting that conditions were still too cold for fish to feed confidently at the top. The session reinforced the value of focusing on productive holding areas and indicated that no substantive changes to the current approach are required for similar conditions.
